Radisich says luck was with him

NZ V8s round winner Paul Radisich says luck was riding with him in the HPM Ford Falcon at Taupo today.

In race two he was leading when the crew radioed him to say another car had dropped oil on the back straight.

By the time Radisich got the information he was about to turn into the Hauraki Chase, the cover at the end of the high-speed, 700 metre blast.

And suddenly the Ford was sliding and he was off the track. He managed to hold on to the lead, but it had been an anxious moment.

Then in the final laps, as reigning champion John McIntyre (BP Ultimate Falcon) was closing in on him, rain began to fall and with its arrival McIntyre lost the chance to attack.

“He then didn’t have the tyre grip to get to me.”

Radisich said that any time a driver comes away from a race meeting with a points lead over drivers like McIntyre, Kayne Scott (second for the round) and Andy Booth (third for the round) it’s a good feeling.

“But we’re still about a second off the pace,” he said. “We need to work on a few things to close the gap.

“This day (and result) came to me rather than me coming to the day.”
