The range-topping S5 Cabriolet uses a new, supercharged, 3.0-litre petrol direct injection V6.

The convertible has a classic fabric soft-top instead of the now common retractable hardtop. It opens in 15 seconds and closes in 17. An acoustic top which cuts wind noise almost to steel roofed levels is available as an added-cost option.

Even with the hood down, the A5 ragtop has 320 litres of luggage space, and the rear seat backrests can be folded forward to create a pass-through load area that expands capacity to 750 litres.

Neck-level heating is available as an option for the front seats, and the optional leather seats are coated with a special layer to reduce solar heating.

Ultra-high-strength steels and selective reinforcement of the body ensure maximum rigidity and crash safety.

A5 Cabriolets will be available in Europe with three petrol engines and two diesels, with power outputs ranging from 132kW to 195kW. All are direct injection and four are turbocharged.

Gearboxes include a six-speed manual, continuously variable multitronic and seven-speed S-tronic, and the convertibles are available with front- or quattro four-wheel drive.

Audi New Zealand will announce the local A5 Cabriolet line-up and specifications later.
