Record year for Suzuki worldwide

Suzuki produced more cars than ever before in 2008, and more than half were built by factories outside Japan.

It made 2,623,788 vehicles last year, two percent more than in 2007, and overseas factories built 1.4 million of them. India, where Suzuki is the dominant brand, was a major contributor to the record build.

Suzuki sales in Japan were strong, at 679,215, a 0.4 percent increase on 2007.

The Suzuki Wagon R was Japan’s best selling car, and Suzuki’s share of the minicar market rose almost one percent, to 31.6 percent share.

Suzuki is celebrating its 100th birthday this year.
