Renault revives Gordini

Later this month Renault will debut the Twingo Gordini RS at the L’Atelier Renault in Paris. A Clio Gordini RS will also be launched a few months later.

The sporty blue Renault’s with two stripes on the hood appeared in the 1960s, carrying the Gordini badge. Gordini-labeled models became fashionable items, making appearances in several French films of the era. About 200,000 of them were made.

Amédée Gordini was a developer of Renault sport models, lending his name to the R8 Gordinis which took 4 out of the top 5 slots at the 1964 Tour de Corsica rally. That gave birth to a Gordini Cup in 1966.

Renault Sport Technologies (RST) will be developing the models. Styling will likely keep the off-center double stripes and feature other cues from the old models, although Renault has provided few details in this press release announcing the return of the Gordini.

Only a few thousand will be manufactured, but Renault is hoping that it will be enough to boost sales of its other models.
