Saab gets back to work

The shuttering of its assembly line was due to Saab’s sale by GM to Spyker Cars earlier this year.

The first model to come off the production line was a Saab 9-5 saloon. The 9-5 will be part of a fleet of test vehicles that will be produced before the model is launched later this year.

Also part of the newly independent automaker’s lineup will be a Saab Convertible and a 9-5 SportWagon due next year. Saab plans to produce a total of five models at the Trollhättan plant.

“Today’s resumption of production is a milestone in the history of our company. We are up and running as an independent manufacturer… and we are all now focused on ramping up production to meet customer demand,” said Saab Automobile chief Jan Åke Jonsson.

Spyker Cars CEO Victor Muller said of the resumption of production that a new era had begun.
