Former champion Kayne Scott has taken the early lead in the 2008/2009 BNT NZ V8s series after winning the opening heat of the Fujitsu 200 race meeting at Taupo yesterday.
The Fujitsu Ford Falcon racer grabbed the lead after mayhem at the second corner of the first lap which knocked reigning champion John McIntyre (BP Ultimate Falcon) off the track.
McIntyre says he’s unsure who hit him but recovered to finish fifth.
International Paul Radisich opened his account with second place, 4.3 seconds behind Scott.
Then came a Holden Commodore flying wedge, with Andy Booth (Tasman Motorsport) leading home Andrew Anderson’s ITM car.
Andrew Porter brought his Falcon home sixth ahead of Craig Baird and David Besnard, both in Falcons.
The second race for the V8s is due to start around 11.15 at a very wet Taupo race circuit.
