Fiat takes the wraps off the open-topped version of its chic 500 retro minicar at next month’s Geneva motor show in Switzerland.
The Fiat 500C (C for Cabriolet) pays homage to the open-top 1957 model 500, with a roll-back canvas roof panel.
The car is identical in size to the sedan and uses the same three engines – 1.3-litre MultiJet Turbodiesel coupled to a five-speed manual transmission, and two petrol motors.
The 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines are available with either manual or robotised Dualogic transmissions.
The 500C has Fiat’s new Start&Stop system which shuts down the engine when the car is at idle in traffic or whenever it stops. The engine re-starts when the driver selects gear.
Fiat says the 500C will accommodate four adults, and retains luggage space even with the soft top fully open, thanks to a parallelogram hinge system.
The soft top has a glass rear window and is available in three colours (ivory, red and black) and will be matched with several body colours, two of which, Pearl Red and Warm Grey, are exclusive to the 500C.
Fiat will build the 500C at its Tichy plant in Poland.
