The 911 Carrera GTS Coupé and Cabriolet will be available in New Zealand from January 2011.

The new Carrera GTS features the Porsche 3.8-litre flat six-cylinder engine but boasts an additional 17kW of power over the 911 Carrera S. With 300kW of power, the 911 Carrera GTS will sit at the top of the Carrera model range.

The power gain is courtesy of a special resonance intake manifold where six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps switch between power- and torque-optimised geometry – whereas in the Carrera S power unit there is only one tuning flap.

While maximum torque is unchanged at 420Nm, it is now available at 4200 rpm – 200rpm earlier compared to the Carrera S. Add to that a sports exhaust system with two dual tail, top speed rises slightly (an additional 4km/h) to 306km/h while acceleration is quicker with the 0-100km/h sprint lowered by 0.1 sec to 4.2 seconds for the Coupe model with optional PDK and Sport Chrono Package Plus.

According to Porsche, this additional sportiness does not come at the expense of efficiency. Thanks to Porsche Intelligent Performance, the Carrera GTS with optional PDK consumes 10.2 L/100 kms – no more fuel than the Carrera S in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

The Carrera GTS stands out from other 911 Carrera models with the 44mm wider Carrera 4 body of the AWD models ,including a wider track, but in this case retaining the classic rear-wheel drive layout.

Other details which distinguish the GTS from regular 911 Carreras include 19-inch centre-lock RS Spyder wheels, painted in black, with high-gloss finish rim flanges and 305/30 R 19 tyres at the rear. Body highlights include the SportDesign fronta pron with spoiler edge painted in black, unique black side skirts and the Carrera GTS logotype on doors and rear lid, in black or silver depending on the body colour. The area between the two tailpipes in the rear is also finished in black.

In combination with the standard interior colour of black Alcantara, the centre sections of the driver and passenger sport seats are covered with black Alcantara, as well as the rim of the new three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel and on the gear and handbrake levers.

Local pricing and specification is yet to be confirmed.
