The Z4 Coupe got an extremely favourable reaction when it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany in September, and was showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
The company confirmed this week that the new model will reach series production from June next year at the BMW Z4 factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.
Visitors to both international motor shows were impressed by the concept study of the Z4 Coupe with its muscular coupe silhouette and silken silver matt paint finish. Their response prompted BMW to put the car into production.
Styled in the vein of a classic sports coupe inside and out, the production car will be offered in 3.2-litre six-cylinder Z4 and Z4 M versions.
The M gets the chassis features from the Z4 M Roadster as well as the variable M differential lock. The M engine is a 195kW straight six.
The Coupe’s lines, especially its rear-end styling, evoke classic Le Mans sports cars like the Bristol aero coupes of the 1950s.
