Subaru will exhibit a concept of the BRZ at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The BRZ will likely be Subaru’s version of the FT-86, developed in tandem with Toyota.
Fuji Heavy Industries, the maker of Subaru vehicles, has derived the BRZ name from the letter B in Boxer engine, R in rear-wheel drive, and Z in the word Zenith.
FHI says “the name embodies ultimate passion for the new sports car and confidence in its distinctive constellation trademark and core technology – the horizontally opposed Boxer engine”.
BRZ production is due to start in mid 2012.
