Subaru to launch six-seat people mover

Published 3 September 2020 says the all-wheel-drive Exiga is built on a stretched version of the new generation Forester and Liberty platforms and will compete against Honda’s Odyssey and smaller people-movers from European brands.

The Australian version will be powered by a revised version of Subaru’s naturally aspirated four-cylinder 2.5-litre Boxer engine, making its debut on the new Liberty/Outback range later this year.

The Exiga is available with a turbocharged four-cylinder in Japan.

Subaru is not revealing any more details at this stage, although the second row of seats will be “captain’s chairs” with individual armrests and a centre console with cup holders. The third row seats can be stowed away.

The Exiga is expected to be about 200mm longer than Forester, with a wheelbase similar to the seven-seat Tribeca.

Australia will be the first export market for Exiga, to be launched in November. No word yet on a New Zealand release.
