All three of Tesla’s electric vehicles are under scrutiny, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into a petition that claims the vehicles can suddenly accelerate independently.Â
The NHTSA is now reviewing the petition and deciding whether to launch an investigation.
The petition outlines 127 driver complaints and claims that this acceleration defect has caused over 100 accidents where 52 people have been injured as a result. It also prompts the NHTSA to recall all Tesla vehicles manufactured from 2013 to the present (this would involve a recall of around 500,000 vehicles in the US).
Tesla is yet to comment on the allegations.
