The Nelson-based car dealership gave away $6000 to the Stoke Community Centre, $4000 to the Nelson South Swimming Club, $1000 to Food for Families, $1000 to the Pinnacle House Charitable Trust, and $500 to the Tasman Music Trust.

It’s the second year in a row that managing director Shane Drummond and his team at The Car Company have given away $10,000 or more to local charities.

This year’s charity drive received 59 submissions for funding. These were whittled down to five finalists, who were then required to go before a panel of judges – including Shane, Mediaworks Nelson general manager Christine Hatton, Nelson Weekly editor Andrew Board and independent judge Tracey Black.

Whereas last year’s charity drive gave $10,000 away to one charity, this year it was decided to spread the money around a number of worthy causes.

Shane said it was all about giving back to the community that he loves. “The Car Company Ltd is proudly locally owned and operated and we care about the local community we are a part of. We want to make a significant difference to a non-profit organisation within our community that needs help with funding.”
