MG NZ has confirmed that it will introduce two more electric options to New Zealand in the form of the MGS6 SUV and the battery powered U9 ute. They are expected to land here around the third quarter of the year.

The MGS6 is already offered in the UK, where it has a 530km range thanks to a 77kWh battery pack. It will be sold here in both RWD and AWD forms. The RWD model has a 180kW/350Nm motor and can charge at rates of up to 144kW. The AWD model, with 266kW, can hit 100 in a claimed 5.1 seconds. At 4.7m long, it will give families a larger SUV option than the S5.

The U9 ute should be an interesting prospect when it arrives here. With dual motors, it’s outputting 325kW of power. Not all the specs have been revealed yet, but some, gleaned from its debut in Australia recently at the Melbourne Motor Show, include a 3500kg braked tow rating and a 685kg payload. It’s expected to pack a big 102kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which will deliver a 430km WLTP range.

Some local reports link the MG U9’s arrival here with the recent spotting of the LDV eTerron 9 on NZ roads. These incorrectly identify the vehicle as undergoing testing. While the vehicle was owned by LDV NZ, it has been in private hands for several months.
Expect more details on spec and pricing in the coming months.
