After taking out both the North American Car of the Year and European Car of the Year Awards, the launch of the Holden Volt has been much anticipated by the NZ car industry.

It is the first electric car of its type to go on sale in NZ, and offers an extended range capability due to its on-board petrol generator. The Volt runs on electricity 100 per cent of the time, and depending on driving style and conditions, can drive the first 87 kilometres on a charge from a regular household wall outlet. When that charge is depleted, the generator switches on to maintain a charge in the battery that gives the car more than 600 kilometres of total range.

Holden is also unveiling its tough new off-roader – the Colorado 7 4WD SUV at Big Boys Toys this week. The all-new seven-seater Holden Colorado 7, based on the Chevrolet Trail Blazer, will be the first heavy-duty 4WD to wear a Holden badge in almost a decade.

Holden New Zealand’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Neil Waka says – “Holden is excited to be a part of Big Boys Toys this year and we will be show casing a new range of cars that have never before been seen in New Zealand. This range of Holden cars will be on display for Kiwi’s to enjoy up close and come direct from the Australian International Motor Show.”

“Big Boys Toys provides Holden with the perfect ‘vehicle’ to show case some brand new cars that we’ll be bringing to the New Zealand market and some won’t even be available here until next year. BBT is a great opportunity for Kiwi’s to get up close and personal with not only the all new Holden Volt but also the large SUV Colorado 7 along with a few surprises and we can’t wait to show Kiwi’s the changing face of Holden.”

The Giltrap Group, one of New Zealand’s strongest vehicle groups, will also be there showcasing some of the finest performance cars around – from Aston Martin and Lamborghini to Bentley, Volkswagen and Porsche.

There is also new models from leading car manufacturers such as Suzuki, Renault, Volvo & SsangYong.

Motorbikes lovers will also have plenty of new models to admire from manufacturers such as BMW, Can-Am, Honda, KTM, Harley Davidson and Suzuki.

Also on show will be the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Leggera which Eddie Freeman set a new New Zealand Land Speed Record two weeks ago, hitting a top speed of 355.485 kmh at the Ohakea Air Base.
