The Lancer Evo 10?

Mitsubishi will show several concept cars and a proprietary next-generation electric vehicle (MIEV) at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Special show models include the Concept-X, a concept car that is tipped to be the prototype for the Lancer Evo 10, and is fitted with Mitsubishi’s 4WD-based Super All Wheel Control vehicle dynamics control system.

The Concept-X has a turbocharged, aluminium cylinder block MIVEC engine and a high-performance six-speed auto-manual transmission.

Extensive use is made of aluminium in the roof, engine hood and other body panels. Chassis performance has been substantially improved with the introduction of Mitsubishi’s latest 4WD-based Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics control system.

The Concept-X has an eye-catching oversized grille, which Mitsubishi says “borrows design cues from a jet fighter to hint broadly at the huge quantities of air it draws in and at the car’s road-hugging stability.”

Mitsubishi says paddle gearshifters mounted on the steering column allow the driver to “concentrate on his steering better and enable drivers of all abilities to experience the satisfying pleasure of sport driving.”

Other show cars are the Concept-D:5, a go-anywhere, high-performance concept car that embodies the company’s safety ideal, and the i minicar.

The Lancer Evolution MIEV is Mitsubishi’s In-wheel motor Electric Vehicle test car.

The D:5 is a concept for the next-generation Delica van. Mitsubishi says that in a go-anywhere anytime, high-mobility, high-functionality new 4WD monobox concept, it “wraps together the classy living space and functionality sought by owners in today’s minivan and Delica’s legendary all-terrain capabilities.”
