The top 10 stolen cars

The Nissan Silvia, Subaru Impreza WRX and BMW 325 coupe are the most attractive cars to thieves, according to AA Insurance.

An analysis of AA Insurance claims over the last four years revealed the Nissan Silvia was the most stolen car.

Four different Subaru models made the top 10 list, while three Nissans, the BMW 325 coupe, Mazda Lantis and Honda Prelude completed it.

The 2008 AA Insurance Drivers Index found 26 per cent of thefts occurred when a car was parked at in the garage, carport or driveway.

Sixteen per cent of thefts occurred when a car was parked on the street near the home.

AA Insurance recommends making your car less attractive to thieves — install an alarm or immobilizer and advertise them in your car. And, lock your car, even when at home.
