Shelby’s previous supercar, the Ultimate Aero, was once the world’s fastest production car (a record now held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport) and the US firm wants to set Nürburgring lap records with the Tuatara.
The production version of the Tuatara will be powered by a twin-turbo 7.0-litre V8 claimed to produce a massive 1350hp.
Saab’s design director Jason Castriota is responsible for the car’s looks, styled around a new bespoke carbonfibre monocoque chassis. Other design features include one-piece carbonfibre wheels.
Shelby plans to sell around 16 units per year from early 2013, with a price tag of around US$1 million (NZ$1.2 million).
