Aston says the V12 Vantage will accelerate to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds and go on to a 305km/h (190mph) top speed.

Its 6.0-litre V12 engine develops 380kW and peak torque of 570Nm.

The new car is based on the V8 Vantage and was shown as a concept at the December 2007 opening of the Aston Martin Design Studio.

“This is the ultimate performance interpretation of the Vantage range, combining our most agile model with our most powerful engine,” says CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez.

“The V12 Vantage has a unique character (and) will appeal to different people with different tastes.

“This also illustrates one of Aston Martin’s key strengths – the ability to act quickly and turn concepts and ideas into reality,” Bez said referring to the little more than 12-month gap between showing the concept and unveiling the production car.

Aston uses racing-developed materials and components, including carbon fibre, in V12 Vantage’s construction.

It will build an estimated 300-500 V12 Vantages year in Gaydon, Warwickshire, England, alongside the DBS, DB9 and V8 Vantage, delivering the first cars before the end of the year.
