The sixth-generation Golf, which went on sale in New Zealand in April, claimed the £16,000-£20,000 price category as well as the title of Caravan Club Towcar of the Year 2010.
The winning model, the Golf SE 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS, impressed the panel of 10 judges for its great performance when towing in a variety of situations and its practicality as a caravanning family car.
Held at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK, the competition attracted 28 entrants.
The Škoda Superb 3.6 V6 won the All-Wheel Drive Vehicles Under 1800kg category in the awards, and the Kia Soul was victorious in the competitive under £16,000 category.
Other winners included the Land Rover Discovery 4, Mazda6 2.2D Estate and Volvo XC60.
