Volkswagen says the new Golf Variant offers the quality, reliability and safety of a Golf combined with the space and versatility of a wagon.

The range of engines in the Golf Variant features the 1.6 litre (77kW) TDI diesel engine and the 1.4 litre (90kW) TSI petrol engine, to be released in April. Both engines come standard with the 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox.

These engines translate to a reported combined fuel consumption of 4.8litres/100km for the TDI and 6.0litres/100kms for the TSI. Both have achieved the Euro 5 emission rating.

A highlight of this new model is the impressive luggage space - the Variant has a load capacity of up to 1495 litres and numerous storage compartments. Four lashing points and bag hooks in the luggage compartment ensure your gear stays in place.

Safety systems on the Golf Variant include ABS, and ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme), front and side airbags for the driver and the front passenger and curtain airbags for front and rear passengers.

Visual highlights include 16-inch steel wheels, black roof rails, halogen headlights and electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors.

Inside, a leather covered steering wheel, Climatic air conditioning and a centre armrest at the front incorporating a storage box, two air vents and two cup holders at the rear make it a luxurious drive.
