The Waites will run their own car on Andrew’s TRS debut – the car Earl Bamber drove in the 2006/2007 season and which was raced twice this season by Daniel Gaunt. “I’ve definitely been down there (to the track) a couple of times to have a look, so I know my way around,’’ said Waite as he contemplated his TRS debut on the fast and daunting street circuit. Like fellow rookie and Formula Ford graduate John Whelan, Waite took advantage of the TRS rookie day earlier this season and will get the opportunity to shakedown the car at Taupo in the week preceding the Hamilton meeting. After starting the season as arguably the favourite to win the Formula Ford Championship, Waite’s challenge faded as the season wore on and the Motorsport Solutions cars and drivers, including Whelan, Stefan Webling and Caine Lobb, came on strongly. “I can’t say that I was gutted, because it wasn’t my fault,” Waite says. “There was nothing I could do. We were down (on power) a little bit to start with, but the Crawford cars found a bit more during the season.’’
