James was one of thousands of hopeful applicants to enter the ‘Simon Says’-inspired competition, Navara Says, completing five rounds of memory-based gaming in the hope of winning the latest pickup.

Now the proud owner of his “shiny new toy” James, 25, says “After I played the game a few times I forgot about the competition, but then got the call from Nissan to find out I had won.”

The Tauranga raised outdoor enthusiast saw the competition on Facebook and thought he’d give it a go, never expecting he would win the big prize. “Initially when I told my friends they didn’t believe me, then eventually they realised I wasn’t joking and were stoked.”

His newfound win has led his friends to adopt a more optimistic view on competitive gaming: “When you enter a thing like this you never expect that you’ll be able to win. It’s led my friends to believe that it’s worth entering competitions like this, you never know.”

James will celebrate his win with a leisurely drive up the Wellington coastline before taking off on a mountain biking adventure. “Me and my buddies like to mountain bike most weekends, now I’ve won the truck our trips will get even better.”
