John Whelan completed a clean sweep of victories in the MTA Formula Ford Championship at Manfeild this afternoon (January 13), leading the third and final race from lap one.
Behind him, Caine Lobb and Andrew Waite fought a race-long battle for second place, Lobb leading initially.
After a Safety Car period Waite found a way past Lobb and then went looking to pass race leader Whelan.
But Whelan kept the door closed and began to ease away again after Lobb began attacking him .
By the end of the race, Whelan had opened a gap to Waite who held out Lobb on the final run to the line.
Stefan Webling finished fourth, ahead of Alastair Wootten and Russell Hartley.
