The high-performance XJR retails for $179,990 and runs a 298kW version of the 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine. It drives the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox which can be used manually.
The supercharged V8 will push the XJR to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds.
The XJR uses the same bonded (glued and riveted) aluminium chassis/body as other XJ variants, giving it a low overall weight that enhances its performance and handling.
The car rides on 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, and has a unique metallic mesh grille.
Xenon headlights are standard, together with front fog lights and there are front and rear audible parking aids.
Jaguar fits the XJR with uprated CATS (computer active technology suspension) sports air suspension that monitors and changes suspension settings up to 3000 times a second to provide a firm but smooth ride, while retaining full suspension travel for the supple, luxurious ride that is synonymous with Jaguar.
Higher capacity ABS brakes with emergency brake assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also standard.
Speed sensitive variable ratio power steering is tuned to provide ideal steering weighting irrespective of speed – light and easy to use in parking, yet taut and precise on the open road.
The car also has traction control and dynamic stability control systems.
Inside there are leather covered sports seats and an aluminium facia and centre console, replacing woodgrain accents.
Other features include a reach and rake adjustable steering column and
electrically adjustable pedals and driver’s seat.
The steering wheel and gear lever are leather-covered. There is climate control
air conditioning, the electrically-operated door mirrors are also heated and there is a rain sensing wiper system.
A six disc CD premium sound system with steering wheel controls and a trip computer provide entertainment and information. There are also steering wheel controls for the blue tooth communications system and cruise control.
Passive safety features include an adaptive restraint technology system to determine the precise energy levels of the eight airbags should they be deployed. There are energy absorbent front seatback restraints.
The security system is an integrated remote central locking with vehicle immobiliser and intrusion sensing alarm system.
Others in the Jaguar large car range include a XJ 4.2 V8 Sovereign with the standard 224kW V8 and a $169,990 pricetag.
In the second quarter this year Jaguar will introduce a diesel XJ.
