Ford has set the third fastest time ever recorded up Pikes Peak with its new all-electric Super Mustang Mach-E.
Piloted by Romain Dumas, the Mustang managed a time of 8:18.202, which was enough to take home the title for the 2026 event.
It’s Dumas’ sixth title, and the second time Ford has earned an overall win on the mountain.
With a track almost 20km long, and a finish line at 4,302 metres, the fact these electric vehicles don’t need air gives them a tremendous advantage over regular ICE-powered vehicles.
Dumas is no stranger to hustling EVs up the mountain, as he was the first driver to break the eight-minute mark back in 2018, behind the wheel of Volkswagen’s ID.R.
The Mustang Mach-E he drove this year doesn’t share a lot with the electric SUVs you can find on your local dealer lot.
It uses three electric motors to produce a hefty 1,043kW, and the massive wings are able to generate up to 5.4-tonnes of downforce.
“It feels great to finish the business we started last year and show what this vehicle is truly capable of,” said Zach Burns, Program Engineer, Ford Racing Demonstrators. “This result belongs to everyone who contributed to the program, both here at the mountain and back home.
“Another year with the vehicle allowed us to understand it more deeply and fine-tune every area. Even with the repaved sections and changing track conditions, the team adapted quickly, improved the car and delivered on the targets we set.”
