This McLaren W1 scale model costs almost $50,000

The Amalgam Collection has announced a collaboration with McLaren, and has unveiled a 1:8 scale model of the W1 hypercar. 

Working in partnership with the British brand, the model is designed to match the specification of a client’s real car. 

It can reportedly be optioned with everything from McLaren’s order sheet, and even comes with an active rear wing. 

Amalgam claims over 3,000 hours of development went into this project, and each model is hand built, taking over 300 hours to create. 

The company also works closely with McLaren, sharing material specifications and paint codes to create an identical model. 

Considering McLaren clients will have to fork out at least seven figures for the real car, it comes as no surprise to hear that the model isn’t cheap, either. 

But at almost $50,000 you have to wonder what the profit margins are for a scale model. 

If you want a launch model, finished in McLaren’s hero hue of Papaya Spark you’ll be looking at $34,000.  

Opting for a custom build to match your real W1, will set you back a hefty $46,775.

The Amalgam Collection plans to manufacture just 199 of these models, which is well short of the 399 W1s that are planned for production.
