Subaru looks to keep the manual transmission alive with three new mystery models 

Subaru has teased the automotive world with three new models that are all set to feature a manual transmission. 

Shown off during the Super Taikyu Fuji 24-Hour race, these three new vehicles will reportedly launch before the end of the year. 

Though these vehicles were shown beneath covers, the silhouettes of two aren’t hard to spot when comparing them with Subaru’s current line-up.

The first is obviously a WRX, but this one is set to gain the TY85 manual transmission, which featured in the last WRX STI. 

Then there’s a BRZ, which likely won’t be wearing many changes as it is already offered with a six-speed manual. 

Arguably the most interesting of the three is a five-door hatch that is reportedly based on the Performance-B STI concept that was revealed last year. 

This hatch combines an Impreza chassis with the turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer engine from the WRX. 

As for styling, a lot of it is inspired by STI models of old with bulging guards, a big bonnet scoop, and large rear wing. 

While it’s fun getting excited about new performance-based Subaru models, it is highly likely that all three of these will be exclusive to Japan.
