Chinese company claims its new solid state battery can provide over 1,500km of driving range

Chinese company Changan has claimed its new solid state battery will be able to provide over 1,500km of driving range in an EV by 2027.
According to Chinese reports, this Changan battery has an energy density of 400Wh/kg, putting it in the upper echelon of solid state units.
Electric vehicles that get this battery fitted will reportedly be able to travel more than 1,500km off a single charge with it.

Changan has called this solid state battery the ‘Golden Bell’, and it is said to be 70 per cent safer than a normal EV battery.
It will also make use of artificial intelligence for remote diagnostics, which is part of this safety element.
The Golden Bell will be built under Changan’s Jingzhongzhao sub-brand.
Changan isn’t the only Chinese manufacturer on the verge of mass production of solid state batteries.
Dongfeng was reportedly testing its in-house solid state battery earlier this year in extremely cold conditions.
This unit has an energy density of 350Wh/kg, which should provide up to 1,000km of driving range in an electric vehicle.
More importantly, Dongfeng is planning to start dropping these into production cars, starting September this year.
The list of other brands investing heavily into solid state battery tech is almost endless, ranging from relatively new Chinese players such as BYD to legacy brands like Mercedes-Benz.
