Chinese premium brand Denza—a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz—has announced New Zealand pricing for its first two models to arrive here, the B5 and B8 super-hybrid SUVs.

The B5 will be offered in Standard and Leopard trims, while the larger B8 comes in two premium configurations: a 7-seat family layout or a 6-seat executive setup with individual second-row chairs. Both models sit on BYD’s new DM-O (Dual Mode Offroad) super-hybrid platform, which prioritises EV driving for day-to-day commuting but combines with a petrol engine to deliver a claimed range close to 1000km.

Performance is boosted by dual-motor all-wheel drive, BYD’s well-proven Blade Battery, and optional DiSus-P hydraulic suspension, which Denza says gives the SUVs superior comfort and stability both on and off the road.

Luxury positioning, without luxury pricing

Denza is positioning itself as a new premium option in the electrified SUV space, supported by the launch of the House of Denza—a brand experience hub designed to pair its vehicles with higher-end lifestyle offerings and customer services.
Local pricing (excluding on-road costs) is as follows:
- B5: $88,990
- B5 Leopard: $96,990
- B8 7-seat (7S): $109,990
- B8 6-seat (6S): $117,990

Denza COO Mark Harland says the brand aims to offer “automotive luxury at price points which are unrivalled in the segment,” adding that customers can enjoy EV-first motoring in town while retaining long-distance capability.

“You can use these vehicles almost exclusively as EVs around town, while being able to hit the road for almost 1,000km in a single drive thanks to this Super Hybrid technology,” Harland said.
Orders for both the Denza B5 and B8 are now open via the brand’s NZ website.
