iCar V27 debuts in right-hand drive; NZ launch on the cards?
Words: Andrew Sluys
Chinese brand iCar has revealed a right-hand drive version of its V27 off-road SUV at the recent Beijing Auto Show.
Following in the footsteps of the V23, the V27 is a large boxy vehicle which is built to get off the beaten track.

Measuring at over five metres long, and 1.27-metres wide, with a 2.9-metres wheelbase, the V27 is similar in size to the Volvo XC90.
With a boxy front featuring round headlights, the fascia looks reminiscent of a Ineos Grenadier, whilst the back is more Toyota FJ Cruiser.

As well as debuting in a right-hand drive layout, the V27 also appeared with a range extender EV powertrain.
This uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as a generator, supplying power to a 34.31 kWh battery.
This battery then powers either a single motor on the rear axle, or a dual-motor four-wheel drive system.

It can reportedly cover 150km on electric power alone, and has a total petrol/electric combined range of over 990km.
On the inside, the V27 is offered exclusively as a five-seater, meaning it can’t compete directly with the seven-seaters in its segment.
Now that it has appeared in right-hand drive form, it seems a New Zealand launch of iCar, or even the V27 is far more likely.
