One of the most significant cars in Formula One history is set to go under the hammer, with Michael Schumacher’s first Grand Prix–winning car to be offered publicly for the first time.

Broad Arrow Auctions, a Hagerty company, has confirmed it will auction the 1992 Benetton B192-05 driven by Schumacher to victory at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. The car will feature in Broad Arrow’s Global Icons: Europe Online auction, which opens for bidding from 23 to 30 January 2026.

Chassis B192-05 occupies a unique place in motorsport history. Designed by engineer Rory Byrne, it is the car that delivered Schumacher’s maiden Formula One win in treacherous, rain-soaked conditions at Spa in August 1992. That victory came exactly one year after Schumacher made his Formula One debut at the same circuit.

The win was achieved against a formidable field that included Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Mika Häkkinen, with Schumacher mastering the demanding Ardennes circuit using a six-speed manual gearbox. Notably, B192-05 is recognised as the last Formula One car with a manual transmission to win a Grand Prix, representing a turning point in the sport’s technical evolution.

Following its 1992 triumph, the Benetton remained with the team at its Enstone headquarters after Renault acquired the operation. It later became part of Renault’s classic car collection before being sold in 2015 to LRS Formula, a specialist in running historic Formula One cars.
Under LRS ownership, the car was fully restored to running condition, including a chassis overhaul and a complete engine and gearbox rebuild. It was acquired by its current owner in 2016 and is now expected to fetch more than €8.5 million when it is auctioned later this month.
A selection of Michael Schumacher memorabilia will be offered without reserve, including a signed 1994 Benetton helmet, 1995 Benetton race overalls and a signed replica of his 1995 Benetton steering wheel.
