Earlier this month, it was reported that Jaguar Land Rover had fired its chief creative officer Gerry McGovern.

This initial report stated McGovern was “escorted out of the office,” leading many to believe his time with JLR was over.

However, according to another report, published more recently by Automotive News Europe, a JLR spokesperson told the outlet that this wasn’t the case.

“It is untrue that we have terminated Gerry McGovern’s employment and we do not intend to further comment on speculative stories.”

McGovern’s minimalistic design work has been evident across JLR’s range for some time now, especially visible with the Range Rover.

He also helmed the team that created the aesthetic of the new Defender, which was one of the most significant design changes we’ve seen from a single model in modern times.

McGovern faced heavy criticism more recently, when Jaguar underwent its rebrand, when the Type 00 concept was unveiled.
