Rimac owner to launch self-driving robotaxis in Europe next year

Best known for his involvement in developing some of the most extreme hypercars of late, Mate Rimac is no stranger to emerging technology in the automotive space. 

Despite this reputation, Rimac’s latest project has nothing to do with performance, and instead involves self-driving electric robotaxis. 

Similar to what we’ve seen in California with Waymo, Verne looks to become a transport solution for cities, without relying on human drivers. 

Unlike Waymo, which uses Jaguar I-Pace SUVs, Verne has developed its own car from the ground up for the project. 

With this in mind, the Verne taxis have forgone any sort of traditional driver’s seat and controls, and have just two spacious-looking seats inside. 

Verne taxis reportedly provide just as much luxury and space as something like Rolls-Royce, allowing passengers to go about their business whilst commuting. 

A large screen stretches across the width of the dashboard, and can be customised with a number of displays and widgets. 

Mate Rimac has previously said Verne will be launching in Croatia’s capital city of Zagreb next year. Following this, it’s likely these Verne taxis will be rolled out across markets across the world.
