Senko the latest Subaru WRX limited edition
Words: Kyle Cassidy
Subaru New Zealand is set to add another to its line-up of limited-edition WRX models with the Senko.
Named after the Japanese word for “flash of light”, the Senko edition is “designed to capture the instant surge of acceleration and driver engagement that has defined the WRX for decades”, says Subaru. Just 10 examples will be offered in New Zealand, each finished in Sunrise Yellow.

Priced at $74,990, the Senko builds on the WRX’s performance credentials with a range of visual and mechanical enhancements. These include 19-inch matte black alloy wheels, gold-painted Brembo brake calipers, a large rear spoiler and a unique rear badge featuring the Senkō kanji script. It commands a $2500 premium over the regular WRX tS manual sedan.
Inside, the cabin receives Recaro sports bucket seats trimmed in Ultrasuede with leather-look accents, complemented by yellow contrast stitching and bespoke black-and-yellow detailing. Buyers also get satellite navigation and configurable driver mode settings.

The 2.4-litre turbocharged flat four engine remains unmodified, producing 202kW, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Subaru suggests the manual-only setup reinforces the Senko’s focus on delivering a pure and engaging driving experience.
Each car will be individually numbered from one to 10 and supplied with a presentation key box, continuing the tradition established by previous special editions such as the Tatsu and Todoroki. Buyers will also receive an STI-branded watch valued at over $1,000.
Subaru says the WRX Senko continues its commitment to offering unique, enthusiast-focused models to the New Zealand market, with previous limited editions becoming highly sought-after among collectors.
