Tesla Roadster revealed today: how to watch live in New Zealand
Words: Kyle Cassidy
Tesla’s long-awaited Roadster will be back in the spotlight today, with the company livestreaming its latest reveal from 1.55pm NZDT on Friday, 16 October.
New Zealand viewers can watch through Tesla’s official X account or on Tesla’s website. The broadcast starts at 7.55pm on Thursday, 15 October in Texas, putting the event on Friday afternoon here.
The presentation was originally scheduled for 1 October but was postponed because of severe weather in Texas. Tesla has said the demonstration needs to take place outdoors.
It’s the latest instalment in a drawn-out development story. Tesla first unveiled the second-generation Roadster in November 2017, with production initially targeted for 2020. Nearly nine years later, customers are still waiting for the production car.

The original performance claims were ambitious: around 1000km of range, a top speed beyond 400km/h and a 1.9-second sprint from 0–97km/h. Tesla also advertised seating for four and a removable glass roof. Those promises helped establish the Roadster as the brand’s proposed performance flagship, although final production specifications remain a key question.
Elon Musk has also talked up an optional SpaceX package using cold-gas thrusters. Whether today’s presentation includes a working demonstration of that technology remains to be seen.
After years of postponements, reservation holders will be looking for firm production and delivery dates. New Zealand buyers will also be watching for details of local availability and pricing.
