Toyota New Zealand has confirmed local specifications and pricing for the all-electric Hilux BEV.

A recent release states pre orders for the electric ute will open “towards the end of May”, which is like now.

In this same release, Toyota confirmed the Hilux BEV will be landing in two trims locally; the SR and SR5.

It will be available exclusively as a double-cab as either a cab chassis, or with a wellside tub on the back.

Pricing for the Hilux BEV starts from $79,990 for the SR Double Cab Chassis. It jumps to $81,990 for the SR Double Cab Ute, and at $85,990, the SR5 Double Cab ute is the range-topping model.

With an electric motor on each axle, the Hilux BEV is all-wheel drive (unlike the four-wheel drive system in the diesel variant).

These two electric motors produced a combined power figure of 144kW, and torque sits somewhere in the region of 400N, with 200NM contributed by each motor.

Power comes from a 59.2kWh battery that sits between the chassis rails of the Hilux.

A peak charging figure hasn’t been provided, but it will charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes.

The electric driving range of the Hilux BEV also varies significantly depending on which body style is selected.

While the wellside can cover up to 315km (NEDC), the cab chassis is rated to just 245km (NEDC).

As it is built around the existing Hilux platform, Toyota is keen to let everyone know it can perform just as a diesel Hilux would off-road.

It gets a wading depth of 700mm, and a range of traction control modes allow the electric motors to adapt to varied terrain.

As for towing, the Hilux BEV is rated to 750kg unbraked, or 2,000kg braked. This is obviously down on the 3.5-tonnes offered by the diesel Hilux.

Just two colours will be available on the Hilux BEV, consisting of Glacier White and Ash.
