Toyota unveils race-ready version of electric bZ SUV

Words: Andrew Sluys

Toyota has unveiled a race-ready version of its all-electric bZ SUV, set to be displayed at the SEMA show this week.

Dubbed the bZ Time Attack, this one-off concept represents Toyota’s first foray into electric performance at SEMA, and is said to serve as a test bed for EV motorsport development.

The concept is based on a 2026 bZ, which makes use of a pair of electric motors to produce 250kW in standard form, and hits 100km/h from a standing start in a claimed 4.9-seconds.

To create this time attack version, Toyota tuned the electric motors to produce north of 300kW, which would likely drop the 0-100km/h sprint into the four-second region.

The suspension system also received an overhaul, with Tein coil-overs at each corner, and a brake system that has been carried over from the GR86 and GR Corolla TC racing machines.

As for aesthetics, a widebody kit does its best to swallow the wheel track that has been widened by 152mm, and large bumpers give each end a more aggressive look. A massive wing is complemented by a large diffuser at the rear.

The 19-inch BBS wheels are wrapped in wide Continental rubber, measuring an impressive 305/30.

On the inside, the bZ Time Attack features a stripped out interior with an FIA-approved roll cage. The OMP racing seats are paired with OMP harnesses that sit behind the bZ’s dash — which seems to be all that remains of the standard interior.

As with most SEMA concepts, it’s unlikely we will see this bZ Time Attack make it into production, but it’s an interesting glimpse into where Toyota sees electric performance going.
