TrailLite launches NZ-built Roadcraft motorhome

Words: Kyle Cassidy

TrailLite has revealed its new Roadcraft motorhome, with pricing starting at $231,000.

The New Zealand-built model made its public debut at the NZMCA Motorhome, Caravan & Leisure Show in Hamilton. It has now entered full production, with prototypes available to view at TrailLite’s Pukekohe and Christchurch showrooms.

Two floorplans are available initially, with a third configuration planned for next year.

Built on a Fiat platform supplied and supported by Fiat NZ, TrailLite says the Roadcraft has been developed around local touring conditions, with an emphasis on spending longer away from fully serviced campgrounds.

TrailLite says greater fresh- and grey-water capacity, along with increased lithium battery capacity, give owners more independence from water connections and mains power. The announcement does not specify tank sizes or battery capacity.

That focus is intended to suit trips taking in DOC campsites, NZMCA Parks and Park Over Properties, as well as conventional holiday parks.

Local design takes on European imports

TrailLite joint managing director Shaun Newman says the early orders (eight have been pre-sold) are an encouraging response to the company’s latest locally built offering.

“It’s a huge vote of confidence in what we’ve created. We knew there was an opportunity for a locally-built motorhome specifically for Kiwi travel – one that could compete with the European brands that traditionally dominate the market,” Newman says.

The company also used the Hamilton show to gather feedback before completing the production models.

“Revealing the final Roadcraft prototypes at the show also meant we could hear directly from customers and incorporate some great feedback into the finishing touches for our full production models.”

Inside, buyers can choose an island-bed layout with access down both sides, avoiding the need for one occupant to climb across the other. Kitchen equipment includes a full oven and a compressor refrigerator with a freezer.

“It’s about giving owners the capability and confidence to travel further and stay longer, without losing the comfort and quality they expect,” Newman says.

Roadcraft is available from $231,000, with the two initial layouts on offer through TrailLite.
