Koenigsegg has added another chapter to its record-breaking history, with the Jesko Absolut setting new production car benchmarks for speed over both the quarter-mile and half-mile.
The achievement took place on Sweden’s National Day, June 6, at Koenigsegg’s home test facility in Ängelholm, where factory test driver Markus Lundh piloted the hypercar to a remarkable 305.39km/h at the quarter-mile marker. That makes the Jesko Absolut the first production vehicle to exceed 300km/h over the standing quarter-mile distance.
The run didn’t stop there. By the half-mile mark, the twin-turbocharged V8 machine had accelerated to an astonishing 373.87km/h, securing another production car record. Both results were independently verified by Racelogic.
Performance data from the run highlights just how extreme the Jesko Absolut is. The rear-wheel-drive hypercar reached 100km/h in just 2.35 seconds, while the sprint from standstill to 300km/h took only 8.3 seconds.
Other figures are equally eye-opening. The Jesko needed just 4.88 seconds to hit 200km/h and covered the quarter-mile in 8.54 seconds. The half-mile was completed in 12.76 seconds.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is that the Jesko Absolut accomplished it without the aid of hybrid assistance or all-wheel drive. Power comes solely from a twin-turbocharged V8 driving the rear wheels through Koenigsegg’s nine-speed Light Speed Transmission.
The record runs were also completed on an unprepared surface using production-specification tyres rather than specialised drag racing rubber.
According to Koenigsegg, some of the performance improvements responsible for the new records will be made available to existing owners via an over-the-air software update, allowing current Jesko Absolut models to benefit from the latest calibration enhancements.
Despite the new records, Koenigsegg believes there is still more performance to come. Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg has suggested the brand’s upcoming Gemera hypercar could ultimately prove even faster in a straight line.
Unlike the Jesko Absolut, the Gemera combines a twin-turbo V8 with electric motors and all-wheel drive, producing a combined 1715kW (2300hp). By comparison, the Jesko Absolut generates up to 1177kW (1600hp) when running on E85 fuel.
For now, however, the Jesko Absolut remains one of the fastest accelerating production cars ever built and has once again demonstrated why Koenigsegg continues to sit at the cutting edge of hypercar performance.
