Fiat ute converted into Popemobile for South American tour
Words: Andrew Sluys
A Fiat Titano ute will be used as Pope Leo XIV’s mode of transport for his upcoming South American tour.
The little ute will join a long list of iconic vehicles that have served as the Pope’s means of transport over the last few decades.

The Titano is a small ute exclusively sold in South America, based on China’s Changan F70.
It is built in Argentina, and is amongst a bunch of F70-based models that are sold across the region.
The vehicle will be converted by Stellantis’ Uruguayan industrial partner Nordex for the duties.
Unlike previous Popemobiles that have provided a serious level of safety against a range of attacks, this one is almost completely open.

It is fitted with a transparent cover to protect the Pope from rain, but it misses out on any sort of covering at either side.
In the tray, there’s a swivel seat, a couple of seats for his entourage, powered steps, and some cushy carpet leading up.
