Ford executive claims Ranger Raptor has too much power 

A Ford executive has made a strange admission about the Ranger Raptor, claiming it has too much power for its class. 

The claim came from Ford Racing production car chief engineer Carl Widmann during an interview with Road and Track. 

“The Ranger Raptor already has significantly more power than any other truck in its class. Nothing else is even within 30 horsepower,” he said. 

“If anything, the Ranger Raptor might even already have too much power.”

Widmann referenced the Ranger Raptor while talking about the US-market Bronco Raptor, which utilises the same 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine. 

The Bronco Raptor produces 312kW/597Nm, which eclipses the 292kW/583Nm offered by the Ranger Raptor in New Zealand. 

This admission all but rules out any possibility of a more powerful version of the Ranger Raptor becoming a reality. 

Ever since the Ranger Raptor went on sale, the rumour mill has swirled regarding a version powered by the Mustang’s 5.0-litre V8. 

Ford offers the F-150 Raptor R in the US, which uses a supercharged 5.2-litre V8, which produces north of 500kW. 

When speaking on the possibility of the Ranger/Bronco Raptor R, Widmann simply said “I have not seen any plans for it.”
