Nissan New Zealand has issued a recall notice which affects more than 2,000 hybrid vehicles locally.
In total, there are 2,162 vehicles involved, split between the X-Trail e-Power and the Qashqai e-POWER models.
Though the issues look to be of similar origin, the notices published to the NZTA website read differently.
“Nissan has identified a potential issue with the fault diagnostic logic within the Lithium-ion Battery Controller (LBC) software fitted to certain X-Trail (T33) e-POWER vehicles.
“The LBC continuously monitors battery cell voltage and performs self-diagnosis; however, under normal operating conditions, electrical noise or fluctuations in circuit resistance may be incorrectly interpreted as a fault within the Lithium-ion battery.”
For the Qashqai e-Power, the notice reads:
“Regarding J12 vehicles produced at the NMUK plant for the European and several markets, Nissan has identified a condition in which abnormal communication between the Main CPU and the Communication IC within the Lithium-Ion Battery Controller (LBC) may result in an incorrect diagnosis of a battery system fault.
“If communication between these two components becomes abnormal for any reason, the vehicle enters a fail-safe mode.”
The spokesperson added “the work will be completed at no cost to the customer and impacted customers will be contacted by letter in the coming weeks.”
