Nissan’s CEO Ivan Espinosa has confirmed that the revived Skyline will make its debut before the end of the year.
Espinosa revealed this information during an interview with Nikkei Asia, where he also mentioned how artificial intelligence helped speed up the design process.
“A big part of this is built on AI capabilities and the utilization of new tools, more digital tools in the design phase, in the testing phase, in the manufacturing phase,” said Espinosa.
Where the current-generation Skyline took around 4.5-years to design, AI assistance cut this process for the new model down to just over two years.
Information regarding this new Skyline has been kept quiet, except for the odd teaser image or mention during interviews.
Nissan has reportedly vetoed the idea of giving it a CVT, and although a manual transmission has been rumoured, there’s no confirmation as of yet.
It will likely be powered by the same twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 that is currently used in the Nissan Z.
There will also reportedly be an all-wheel drive variant with an automatic transmission to give it mass appeal.
As well as speaking on the regular Skyline, Espinosa was questioned about the upcoming R36 GT-R.
As expected, he remained tight-lipped on this project, simply stating that they would “share more details later on.”
