Polestar’s Formula 2030 concept points brand in new direction

Words: Andrew Sluys

Polestar has unveiled a concept it is calling the ‘Formula 2030’, which reportedly previews the company’s new direction.

Its unveiling comes after Polestar was unable to secure an exemption to the United States’ Connected Vehicle Rule, banning cars that have software connected to China and Russia.

Considering Polestar was building cars in the US, dropping this market left a significant hole in its commercial outlook, meaning a new strategy had to be devised.

This Formula 2030 concept represents the start of this switch, as it was penned by Philipp Römers, who joined in 2025.

Speaking on the concept, Römers said: “Polestar’s design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before.”

“Formula 2030 delivers this, showcasing our future while respecting brand-defining elements like the familiar Dual Blade headlights ensuring it remains recognisably a Polestar with a strong, characterful identity.”

While it’s tricky to see what the concept vehicle actually is, the muscular styling cues are obvious across the fascia.

It retains Polestar’s iconic split “hammer” headlights, adding cambered front wheels, and a centre-mounted windscreen wiper.

This concept is expected to be unveiled in full alongside the media launch of the Polestar 4 SUV later this year.

According to international reporting, this concept previews what we can expect to see across the upcoming Polestar 2 and Polestar 7 models.

The revised Polestar 2 is due to be unveiled in 2027, whilst the all-new Polestar 7 will come in 2028.

The Polestar 7 will land as a compact SUV, and will be the first vehicle from the brand to be built in Europe.
