Former Porsche CEO (and current CEO of Volkswagen) Oliver Blume has admitted to acting with haste in making the Macan exclusively electric.
This admission from Blume came from an interview he did with German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“Our strategy was to offer a range of combustion engine, hybrid, and electric sports cars in each of our three segments – but not necessarily for every single product.
“We misjudged the situation with the Macan. Based on the data and market assessments available at the time, we would have made the same decision again,” Blume told the outlet.
The decision was made to make the next-generation Macan exclusively electric in 2019, at a time when numerous manufacturers were signalling an emissions-free future.

“Today, the situation is different. And we have reacted accordingly, adding both combustion engine and hybrid options,” he added.
Despite only offering the latest Macan with electric power, Porsche made the decision to continue sales of the petrol-powered previous generation alongside it.
Adding to this, the German brand has signalled plans to maintain production of these ICE-powered Macan models through 2026.

Once this production ceases, Porsche will reportedly launch an all-new SUV in 2028 to replace the ICE-powered Macan, which will offer both petrol and hybrid power.
Signs point to this new SUV sharing underpinnings with the new Audi Q5, which sits on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).
