Subaru has unveiled a one-off turbocharged BRZ that it plans to use in the All Japan Rally Championship.

While the WRX has seemingly turned into a family sedan, it looks like the BRZ might finally be getting the Subaru treatment it deserves.

Subaru reportedly showed a teaser of this vehicle at Mobility Resort Motegi during the first round of the Super Taikyu series.

In this rally-ready form, the BRZ gets a turbocharged engine, plus an all-wheel drive system to optimise traction.

Other modifications visible from the teaser include a suspension lift, big all-terrain tyres, and large fenders to keep it all in check.

Considering the new BRZ shares an engine with the turbocharged WRX, it will be interesting to see if it’s the same 2.4-litre in this rally car.

Built by Subaru’s new Sports Vehicle Planning Office, this machine could hint at a new era of driver-focused cars from the brand.

Subaru is yet to reveal any technical details of this machine, but veteran Japanese driver Toshihiro Arai is set to drive it in the rally.
