Toyota confirms an all-electric Highlander SUV is coming

Words: Andrew Sluys

Toyota has dropped a short teaser video for an all-new Highlander SUV, with the big news that it will be electric.

This upcoming Highlander EV will be revealed in full on February 11, so we haven’t got very long to wait.

Considering Toyota chose to name its first EV the ‘BZ4X’, using an existing nameplate for the second electric SUV is a far more conservative move, and will likely work in its favour.

From the short video posted to social media by Toyota, we can only see the rear tailgate and lights. But from this glimpse, it’s clear this isn’t just an electric version of the existing Highlander.

The badges on the tailgate point to it being electric, and all-wheel drive, meaning it will likely feature a dual-motor set-up.

Given its size, it should also get a larger battery than the bZ’s 74.7kWh unit.

As for what it will look like, rumours are pointing towards the bZ Large SUV Concept that Toyota released back in 2021.

This builds upon the traditional three-row SUV styling with sharp angles and a coupe-like glasshouse.
