Toyota New Zealand announces pricing for 2026 RAV4 range
Words: Andrew Sluys
Toyota New Zealand has announced pricing and specifications for the 2026 RAV4 range, including the most powerful model yet — the GR Sport.
Offered as in hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms, the days of the petrol-only RAV4 are all but numbered, but with nine models on offer, choice is still plentiful.

Starting from $49,990, the 2026 RAV4 range kicks off with the front-wheel drive GX Hybrid. The all-wheel drive GX comes at a $3,000 premium, pushing the price to $52,990.
This is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s paired with a 1kWh lithium-ion battery to produce 143kW and 221Nm of torque.
An electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) is standard across the entire 2026 RAV4 range.

Fuel consumption for the front-wheel drive model is claimed at 5.0L/100km, whereas the all-wheel drive model is 5.1L/100km.
Standard interior equipment in the GX grade includes a 10.5-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.
On the outside, it gets 17-inch alloy wheels, with a full-size spare.
Moving up to the GXL grade, buyers will have to fork out $52,990 for the front-wheel drive model, and $55,990 for the all-wheel drive model.
Standard equipment with the RAV4 GXL includes a wireless phone charger, rain-sensing wipers, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
At $57,990, the GXL represents the entry-point to the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid range, which makes use of the same 2.5-litre petrol engine, but remains front-wheel drive.
With a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery, the RAV4 PHEV produces a combined total output of 200kW, which will send the SUV to 100km/h from a standing start in 7.5-seconds.
This system can be charged at a maximum rate of 11kW (AC).
It’s also worth noting that all PHEV grades include a 1500 watt plug capable of powering small
appliances while on the road.
The front-wheel drive RAV4 XSE PHEV is next in the range, starting from $61,990.
This adds two-tone exterior paint options of an Ebony roof matched with Frosted White, Avant-Garde Bronze, Massive Grey, Deep Sea Blue or Emotional Red.
Rounding out Toyota New Zealand’s “Core” line-up for the 2026 RAV4 is the Limited model, which is offered exclusively in hybrid all-wheel drive form.
Starting from $63,990, the Limited adds an adaptive high beam system, a panoramic view monitor, a JBL premium audio system, leather accented upholstery and a moon roof. The Limited also rides on 20-inch black alloys, wrapped in lower profile tyres.
Though it’s slightly cheaper than the XSE and Limited variants, Toyota claims the RAV4 Adventure hybrid is in a class of its own at $60,990.
Larger over fenders, angular bridge roof rails, and 18-inch matte grey alloy wheels round out the exterior changes here.
On the inside, the Adventure gets hard wearing synthetic leather upholstery, and front seat heaters.
At the top of the range, and what Toyota New Zealand sounds most excited about is the RAV4 GR Sport.
Starting from $66,990, this plug-in hybrid model is the most powerful RAV4 to date, with 227kW allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 5.8-seconds.
According to Andrew Davis, Chief Strategic Officer at Toyota NZ, an additional 70,000 hours of engineering work went into getting this RAV4 GR Sport right.
“It’s less about recreation and all about on-road performance. The GR version is specifically designed for on-road performance whilst keeping the benefits of an SUV for practicality. It’s practical, has the fuel efficiency benefits of a plug-in hybrid SUV and then adds a driving set up that is designed to put a smile on your face,” Davis says.
GR Sport additions include 20–inch alloy wheels (which are reportedly 2.2kg lighter than the standard wheels), high-performance dampers, and a stiffer rear suspension brace, and a 20mm-wider wheel track.
On the inside, the GR Sport grade gets aluminium sports pedals, suede-accented seats, and a GR Sport steering wheel.
