Toyota reveals Nürburgring-inspired GR Yaris Morizo RR
Words: Andrew Sluys
Toyota has unveiled the GR Yaris Morizo RR at Tokyo Auto Salon, which is the most hardcore version of the little hot hatch we’ve seen yet.
According to Toyota, this special edition is a tribute to Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda, aka Morizo, who raced a similar Yaris in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Revealed in prototype form, Toyota has confirmed plans to produce just 200 of these hardcore hatches.
Buyers in Japan will have to enter a lottery to receive an allocation from the 100 domestic units, and “certain” will receive the other 100 units.

Beneath the bonnet, the GR Yaris Morizo RR makes use of the standard 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 224kW and 400Nm of torque.
In this case it’s paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels.

Exterior changes are plentiful, and include a massive rear wing, new front bumper, new rear bumper, new side skirts, and a carbon fibre bonnet.
Bronze wheels, yellow brake calipers, and vented front guards round out the changes here. It also wears an exclusive colour Toyota is calling Gravel Khaki.

On the inside, this little Yaris means business with a new race-inspired steering wheel wrapped in suede.
There’s also a plaque which displays an exclusive serial-number plate with a “MORIZO RR” logo.
